On January 16th, 2004, at 8 pm Lynn McDonald will host A
Celtic Celebration at the Port Perry United Church, 294 Queen
St., Port Perry. This will be the Presenter’s “hat’s
off” to Robbie Burns Day, which is also in January.
Durham Region is a Treasure trove of Highland Games and Tattoos
in the summertime and this should warm the cockles of your
heart this winter night.
The evening will get off to a rousing opening with a selection
of Traditional colourful dances, sword and Highland Fling
performed by The Pride of Stewart Highland Dancers under the
choreography of Dana Lynn Stewart-Robitaille.
Lynn McDonald first contacted Stewart Bennett who organized
the Tattoo in July for his group “Claidhmor” the
five man singing group will be missing Ryan Edgars golden
tones but they will perform a set of traditional ballads and
dances. Herb Vine, Ian Forbes and Fred Cotie sing with Stewart
and play various instruments.
We are honoured to have Ron Fodor perform a set of tunes
on his noble Bagpipes with narrative and demonstration. He
hails from the Highland Creek Pipe Band as Sergeant.
Rochelle Kinley Van-Dyke from the Island Dance Studio has
a treat from her Highland Dance program which is relatively
new. The seasoned instructor will perform solo as well.
A huge thank you to June Eikhart (yes, Shirley’s Mum)
for agreeing to regale us with her Cape Breton fiddling. She
will be accompanied in her jigs and reels.
It should be fun. A true variety show. Bring the entire family
from Grampa to youngster. This is family entertainment. See
you there!
The Lynn McDonald Presents Concert series is happily sponsored
by Don McLeod and the good people at the Port Perry Star,
188 Mary St., where advanced tickets may be purchased. $15.
