A Letter From Lynn:
As you may know by now, Amis du Jazz is strictly a not for profit
music appreciation society which predominantly features jazz bands.
Jazz bands old and young, big and small. But to a large extent,
jazz bands. But there is more to music than my first love. There
is classical, folk, tango, flemenco, celtic, swing, latin American,
Cuban, dixieland!!!!!!!
It is my personal goal to develop the contacts and credibility
that I have nurtured over the past twenty years with the Canadian
Community of all sorts of musicians, and present them to the growing
and culturally savvy residents of Port Perry and the Durham Region.
Reverend Peter McKellar at the Port Perry United Church
(four corners P.P.) is a dedicated music lover and appreciates
its spirtual and healing properties. The Board of Directors
has permitted me to rent the Sanctuary with its new
large stage area and newly acquired grand piano for
my series. The facility lends itself beautifully with
a green room for resting talent and a large basement
for refreshments at intermission.Oh, and the acoustics!!!
Even the bass players are choosing to play unamplified,
the acoustics are so perfect.
It is my experience that a lot of Port Perryites either stay home
in the evening or make the big drive into Toronto for their special
and expensive night on the town. I am attempting to spare the expense
and the 140 km round trip, with which we are so familiar, to experience
the best entertainment. I will try to keep the admission at 15 dollars.
Because this series is commercial, I am able to advertise, unlike
Amis du Jazz, which relies on the word of mouth of its members.
So far, "Lynn McDonald Presents" has featured Swingshift
the twenty piece traditional Glenn Miller/Tommy Dorsey band. Following
that, we had a great night with Jane Bunnett and her Cubans, The
Spirit of Havana, and most recently, Alex Pangman and Her Alley Cats
who played to a packed house and received an encore and a standing
ovation! Thanks for supporting a brand new series. We're ready for
you and open to input. I am doing this for you, after all. Pax,
Lynn
